Issue: Chris Butterfield makes a hand shake contract,

bounces check and refuses to pay a reduced total balance of $800.

Approximately a year ago I was hired by Chris Butterfield, of JB Office to move the contents of the store at Lake street to the new location at Tagham.

The deal was he was suppose to help me or provide help in the moving of items. I thought it strange that they were not ready to move so their helping amounted to packing and organizing. Chris was to meet me at the new location to unload, but didn't so then I ended up unloading the bulk of it all. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, being there was a building transaction in place, and he was likely busy with that.

During this move (Which took 2 months before I got paid) he initiated a conversation about a stair climbing dolly, and felt that If I had one he would hire me to deliver his photo-copiers, as he wished to be the "Suit" and I could then be the delivery guy.

We had a number of talks about this, and as I was starting a new business, I could not afford to purchase this expensive dolly. He assured me of one to two copier moves a month and an in town charge of $100 would not be out of the question.

As we talked through the weeks, I did 2 deliveries, actually a move from one location to an other, and an out right delivery, to which I only charged 66.08 tax in, each as I hadn't purchased the equipment yet.

It is hard getting a cheque from Chris, and I received the cheque for the previous jobs the day I did the third job which was deliver and pick up copiers at three locations, starting at the Tagham location, with three copiers, and the first stop was up the slocan valley some, then Halcyon hot springs, then back over to Kaslo, and returning to Tagham location.

This turned out to be a 12 hour day as - - - traveled with me, in order to set up the Halcyon copier which took 2 hours, something I was not warned of, yet waited patiently for the resolve.

When I charged for this run I only charged 10.5 hours and reduced my rate from $79 hr to $59 hr as a good will gesture, with a Total of $693.84.

A week later I was informed by my Credit Union that the JBOffice cheque had bounced, and Chris became unavailable for a week and a half. When I finally contacted him, he said it was a banks error and that they would pay the extra charges, "Please make up a new bill reflecting the cost".

And he would get the other cheque processed for me.

After numerous contacts email wise and phone wise, and in person, all total about 12 -15 times, I still don't have any money.

I am out $190.00 in gas money alone, plus I have a $5000.00 dollar dolly that I have to make payments on every month.

Chris Butterfield has never said that he doesn't owe me the money, he has always said that he would get Alan to process the cheque for me. He owes me $800.

I would just like to know, if Chris hasn't paid me is there others that he hasn't paid, and who would want to do business with a man and a company like this . . . Huh.

NOTE: It took one full year to finally gat paid.

I would have just deleted this page, but the internet holds cashed copies of pages and with out this update, the end-story would be skewed to not reveling the truth.

PS. This page was built as a warning to Chris, as something that I would show him with the threat of publishing it to the www, and as it had no links to it I felt with my knowledge, Google would not find it. But they did and now it is irretrievable from public view.
